The Church of the Holy Apostles in Hilo invites everyone to its Kanikapila to raise funds for Hale Iki Village, a community of tiny homes for those displaced by the eruption of Kilauea volcano in lower Puna.
The event is slated for 12:45 p.m. Aug. 26 at the church located at 1407 Kapiolani St.
Kanikapila is a style of Hawaiian music produced in an impromptu jam session. Come and play your ukulele, guitar or voice to play or sing, or dance hula, or just come and enjoy the joyful noise all for a good cause.
The event starts with a hula kahiko to bless the endeavor, performed by Halau Ulumamo o Hilo Paliku under the direction of kumu hula Mamo Brown.
The Kanikapila will be led by Andy Andrews of the Puna Ukulele Kanikapila Association.
Pupus will be provided.
Admission is a minimum of $5 per person, but donations of more will be accepted.
