Member celebrates 20 years with Toastmasters

Toastmaster Joann McCabe joined the Hilo Toastmasters club in 1998. Since then she has been an active member of club No. 248.

Not only has she achieved an Advanced Communicator Gold award but she has also written two helpful leadership and communication articles that have been published in the Toastmaster magazine, available to members worldwide.

“We can count on Joann. She is a behind-the-scenes Toastmaster, nurturing new members, working to improve our club’s website as well as filling meeting roles when needed,” said Sharla Sare, Division C director. On Aug. 14, the club celebrated this milestone.

Toastmaster No. 248 meetings are held from 12:10-1:10 p.m. Tuesdays at Pu‘u‘eo Community Center, Clem Akina County Park, 145 Wainaku St., Hilo.

BedMart donates beds to families

BedMart, Hawaii’s largest family-owned and operated mattress retailer, announces its donation of 104 Tempur-Pedic mattresses and GBS Enterprise mattress protectors to three Big Island nonprofit organizations, with support from the vendors.

Aloha Marine Lines helped with transport and storage of the product for the event. BedMart is working with them to provide support to displaced families and individuals as they rebuild their homes and life.

The mattresses and protectors will go Hope Services, Hawaii Support Network and Hawaii Island Home for Recovery to distribute to families whose homes and lives have been affected by the Kilauea Volcano eruption.

BedMart is pleased to partner with these three organizations and contribute to help those who been affected by this astonishing event.

“We care about our community and how this disastrous situation has affected so many.
