Ethel Leilani Mahi, 84, of Waikoloa died on July 21 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Kukaiau, she was a homemaker, retired from Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, a member of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union and Hawaiian Civic Club bowling team. Visitation 4-5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Celebration of life at 5 p.m. Casual attire; flowers and lei welcome. Survived by sons, Richard Mahi Jr. and Marshall Mahi of Honolulu, John Mahi of Washington, D.C., Kelii (Lovey) Mahi of Keaau and Ricky (Karen) Mahi of Kapaau; daughters, Lani Anne Ferreira and Terry-Ellen (Alvin) De Vera of Honokaa, Lani (Gordon) Dano of Honolulu, Gayle Gacayan and Candace (Raymond) Alnas of Waikoloa and Kuulei Mahi of Washington, D.C.; brother, Richard (Aiko) Mahuna of Kaneohe, Oahu; sisters, Margaret Ynigues of Paauilo, Nora Thomason of California and Elizabeth Lee Loy of Hilo; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. James “Bud” William McBrien, 70, of Kailua-Kona died Aug. 3 at home. Born in Hilo, he was a property resident manager. Memorial service 9 a.m. Sunday (Aug. 12) at Kahaluu Beach Park, big pavilion. Survived by wife, Teena McBrien of Kailua-Kona; sons, Eric (Monica) DeVine of Maui, Andy (Audrey Tomlinson) DeVine of Kirkland, Wash., Adam (Alena) DeVine of Snohomish, Wash., and Neil (Maureen) DeVine of Marysville, Wash.; hanai daughter, Michelle Decaire of Kirkland; stepsister, Sue Kekahuna of Hilo; 10 grandchildren; nieces and nephew. Emiko “Emi” Wakayama, 85, of Waimea died July 29 at home. Born in Kurtistown, she was a seamstress, homemaker, volunteer at the North Hawaii Community Hospital gift shop, performed Japanese tea ceremony, member of Waimea Heritage Cherry Blossom Festival Committee, Kamuela Hongwanji Mission, Kamuela Japanese Civic Association and Kamuela Senior Citizens. Private services held. No flowers or koden (monetary gifts). Survived by son, Curtis Wakayama of Waimea; brother, Mareo Takajo of Hilo; sisters, Aiko Sadahira of Hilo, Patricia Hamada of Escondido, Calif., and Kimie Ching of Hilo; caregiver, Mina Corpuz of Waikoloa; in-laws, nieces and nephews.
