The wild ride at the Senior League World Series is over for Gold Coast.

The Big Island softball squad battled valiantly, but fell 3-1 in the quarterfinals on Friday to a team from Massachusetts representing the East.

Gold coast outhit the East squad 9-3 in the contest, but five errors were ultimately the difference. Only one of East’s three runs were earned.

All the runs were scored in the first two innings. After East broke the ice in the bottom of the first, Lisan Mudong nailed a single to tie the game in the top of the second.

But the Massachusetts squad would tack on two more in the bottom half of the inning, and that would be enough in defensive battle.

Nanea Kaluau continued her stellar tournament, recording a pair of hits from the leadoff spot for Gold Coast. Tehani Epenesa also managed two hits and scored the team’s lone run. Kierra-Christina Molina had the only extra base hit in the game, notching a double in the fifth inning with no outs.

Tehani Epenesa took the loss for West. She allowed three hits and three runs over six innings, striking out three.

While their quest for a title is over, the girls will continue play in the consolation bracket Saturday against a team from the Netherlands representing the Europe-Africa region. Gold Coast won the pool play matchup against Europe-Africa 12-2.
