The number of countries supporting Gemini Observatory grew this week.
The observatory, which operates twin 8-meter telescopes on Maunakea and Chile, announced Tuesday that South Korea joined as a partner after becoming a collaborator in 2014.
“With Korea joining Gemini, we will see a fresh new perspective which I’m certain will result in a flood of great ideas and insights,” Anne Kinney, of the U.S. National Science Foundation, said in a press release.
The telescopes are funded by the primarily by the National Science Foundation. Other participants are Canada, Chile, Brazil and Argentina.
