Equestrian group hosting fun day

Orchid Isle Eventing, an equestrian organization, is hosting an equestrian fun day beginning at 9 a.m. today at the Panaewa Equestrian Center in Hilo.

The games scheduled for the day are barrels, poles, water in a cup, egg and spoon, working equitation (a combination of a trail course — gate, bridge, barrels, etc.) and equitation, sit-a-fiver and other challenging games.

Everyone is invited, western and English riders. Participants can sign up at the event, which is open to all ages. Come early and introduce your horse to the obstacles.

Hard hats are required for riders ages 17 and younger. The cost is $5 for the entire day plus a donation to help those from Puna displaced by the lava.

A pot luck lunch is planned. Bring your best contribution. OIE will provide water, soft drinks, plates, napkins and eating utensils.

For more information, call Karen FitzGerald at 987-5641 or Desiree Mairs at 785-0310.
