Golf: Waikoloa’s Jaehn cards second consecutive 74 at junior worlds

Waikoloa’s Ethan Jaehn carded his second consecutive 2-over 74 on Wednesday to lead the Big Island contingent competing at the junior world golf championships in the San Diego area.

Jaehn was tied for 60th in the 180-member field halfway through the tournament in the boys 13-14 field, making two birdies to get to 148, which is 11 strokes off the lead.

Hilo’s Dysen Park carded a 77 and was at 150 after a round that included one birdie. Park made three birdies during a 73 in Tuesday’s first round.

Hilo’s Lacey Uchida went without a birdie during her second round of 82, leaving her at 15-over 159 in the girls 15-18 division.

In boys 9-10, Hilo’s Jake Otani (90) was at 173 and Noah Miyazono (97) came in at 189 after two rounds.

• Former UH-Hilo golfer Isaac Jaffurs coupled a 75 and a 72 for a 5-over Monday during a U.S. Amateur qualifier, tying for ninth at Kapolei Golf Club on Oahu.

Spencer Dunaway of Mililani, Oahu, finished at 2-over to secure a berth to the championship.
