Rainbow Friends Animal Sanctuary of Kurtistown announced it received a $20,000 donation from the Harry Allgauer Foundation to support its ongoing relief work for the many animals displaced in the Puna communities during the Kilauea eruption.
Rainbow Friends Animal Sanctuary is a nonprofit, no-kill/animal alive organization where all animals are treated with love, kindness and compassion. Serving Hawaii Island since 1999, Rainbow Friends has been able to help about 500 families with their animals since the eruption began May 3.
Marianne Allgauer, president of the Harry Allgauer Foundation, is a former resident of Oahu and Hawaii Island and now resides in La Jolla, Calif. She is committed to the welfare of animals including sanctuaries that provide homes for wild animals that have been victimized by the captive wildlife crisis in the U.S. and other countries.
“The foundation is grateful that Mary Rose, her staff and volunteers are providing sanctuary, food and veterinary care for the many animals that have been affected by the ongoing Kilauea eruption crisis,” Allgauer wrote in the card accompanying the donation.
“Helping the evacuated families and their animals has been the highest priority for Rainbow Friends in the past two months and that has been made possible by our many wonderful supporters,” said Mary Rose Krijgsman, founder and president of Rainbow Friends.
