Wailoa Center’s Main Gallery is presenting “Contemporary Perspectives” from the Paradise Studio Tour Artist Collective for the month of July.

An opening reception for the artists will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the center.

There will be 21 artists showcasing some of the collective’s finest works in clay, fiber, oil/acrylics/watercolor, glass, jewelry and photography. Some work features new ideas and directions you may not have seen from the Hawaiian Paradise Park Studio Tour which has been held every December for the past 11 years.

Artists participating in the Wailoa exhibit include: Ilana Moidel Acevedo, Laura Moidel Acevedo, Rose Adare, Rod Cameron, Linda Brooks, Patti Datlof, Ratna DeLewis, Mae Desmond, Karen Hagen, Kimberly Langston Hagen, Patti Pease Johnson, Peggy McKinsey, Charlene Meyers, Stone O’Daugherty, Jan Perry-Clarke, Kaylie Pickup, Kim Rolan, Shelby Smith, Margaret Stanton, Esther Szegedy and Robert Troost. The Fountain Gallery will feature the work of students from Keaau High School and Pahoa’s Hawaii Academy of Art and Science.

The mission of the Big Island’s Paradise Studio Tour Artist Collective, in addition to providing opportunities for artists to connect directly with patrons, is to generate fellowship among visual artists and to encourage and support young artists. To this end, each year, the members donate 10 percent of all sales from the December Studio Tour to the Puna District public high schools for much-needed art supplies. From 11 previous years’ shows, more than $16,500 has been donated by the Paradise Studio Tour Artist Collective for Pahoa High School, Keaau High and the Hawaii Academy for Arts &Sciences.
