Puna Hongwanji bon dance slated

Puna Hongwanji Mission, a Jodo Shinshu Buddhist temple, will host its hatsubon service and bon dance July 6-7 in Keaau.

The public is invited to attend.

The hatsubon service begins at 6 p.m. with bon dance to follow both nights. Come and listen to the Dharma message by Resident Minister Satoshi “Ka‘imipono” Tomioka. There will be a concession with ono food.

Seniors of Paradise hosting picnic in HPP

The Seniors of Paradise annual Independence Day picnic is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Hawaiian Paradise Park Activity Center.

The group will provide hot dogs for the potluck lunch; attendees are asked to bring a side dish or dessert. There will be picnic games and fun for all while you meet new friends and greet old ones. Open to all who are age 55 and older.

Big Island author releases 3rd book

Hawaii Island author Dave Glenn announces the release of his third book, “Where Are the Humans,” part of a science-fiction trilogy, on June 24.

“The book ends strangely enough on the Big Island,” Glenn said.
