Police are seeking leads into the alleged assault of a 34-year-old woman in Hilo.

The woman reportedly told police that at about 1 p.m. June 13, she was assaulted in the restroom at Alae Cemetery by a man she said was hiding in the restroom. During the attack, another woman reportedly entered the restroom and startled the man, who then fled.

The alleged victim sustained minor injuries and declined medical treatment.

The suspect is described as “local looking,” in his 50s, about 5 feet 5 inches tall, with short, thick salt-and-pepper hair with bald spots and fair complexion. He was reportedly wearing black pants and a black T-shirt.

Police want to talk to the woman witness, who left before police arrived. They also ask any potential witnesses to call the police nonemergency line at 935-3311 or Crime Stoppers at 961-8300.
