Alexander Durante, 92, of Hilo died June 5. Born on Oahu, he was a retired merchant marine, worked for the U.S. Navy at the former Naval Air Station Pearl Harbor during World War II and member of Kuliouou Rosary Group on Oahu. Memorial service 4-7 p.m. Saturday, July 14, at Ballard Family Moanalua Mortuary in Honolulu. Survived by sister, Elizabeth P. Kaiama of Waikoloa; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews. Arrangements by Ballard Family Mortuary.

Shirley Marie Ferreira, 82, of Bakersfield, Calif., formerly of Hilo, died May 26 at Brookdale Riverwalk Nursing Home in Bakersfield. Born in Honomu, she was a retired licensed practical nurse for the former Hilo Hospital, member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and bowler at the former Hilo Lanes. Visitation 8:30-9:30 a.m. Tuesday (June 19) at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Mass at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Homelani Memorial Park. Aloha or casual attire. Survived by sons, Arnold (Sarah) Ferreira of Culver, Ore., Carl (Ellen) Ferreira of Bakersfield and Patrick Ferreira of Petaluma, Calif.; brother, Joseph DeSa of Honolulu; sister, Marilyn (Ray) DeCosta of Hilo; sisters-in-law, Kotoni DeSa of Pepeekeo, Linda DeSa of Honokaa, Loretta Kim of Honolulu and Evelyn Ferreira of Honolulu; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. Umeyo “Alice” Hayashida, 86, of Hilo died May 29 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Pahoa, she was a homemaker. Private services held. Patrocinio “Pat” “Cinio” P. Sacayanan, 70, of Papaaloa died May 31 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Paoay, Ilocos Norte, the Philippines, he was a retired cane seed cutter for the former Hamakua Sugar Co. and member of St. Anthony Catholic Church. Visitation 8-9:45 a.m. Friday, June 22, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Papaaloa. Mass at 10 a.m. Casual attire. Burial at the church cemetery.
