A fast-moving lava flow crossed Pohoiki Road near Malama Ki Place, according to Hawaii County Civil Defense.

Approximately 40 homes in the area are isolated, and officials are gaining helicopter access to determine how many people remain and if they need assistance.

Police, fire and National Guard personnel are being sent to secure entry into the area.
