Police have identified a man who died Sunday morning after rolling a pickup truck on Highway 11 near the 41.5-mile marker in Kapapala, Kaʻu as 28-year-old Brayden T. Martin of Hilo.

Officers responding to a 7:48 a.m. call determined that Martin had been driving a 2002 Toyota pickup north when he crossed the center line, then ran off the roadway and struck an embankment, overturning the truck and ejecting Martin, who died at the scene.

Police believe inattention was a factor in the crash and an autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact Officer Kimo Keliipaakaua at 326-4646 ext. 229.

Martin’s death is the 10th traffic fatality this year, the same as at this time last year.
