In observance of National Drug Court Month, Big Island Drug Court is hosting a food drive for the Food Basket from 2:30-4:30 p.m. today at the Puainako KTA Super Store.

Nonperishable items will be collected for the Food Basket, Hawaii Island’s food bank, which will distribute a portion of the contributions to the people in Puna affected by the recent volcanic activity.

Big Island Drug Court Coordinator Grayson K. Hashida said the event is one of the ways the program and its participants can show their appreciation for the community’s support of the court’s mission to administer justice in an impartial, efficient and accessible manner in accordance with the law.

The Food Basket is conducting ongoing emergency relief for Kilauea volcano victims and accepting donations of water, food, supplies and money. For more information, visit www.hawaiifoodbasket.org.
