Cody Hirata, baseball

It’s hard to overstate how pivotal Hirata’s six-plus innings were against Hilo on Saturday in the BIIF Division I championship series.

Ace David Nakamura took care of the Vikings in the opener, and Hirata held Hilo in check in Game 2.

The Warriors struggled to pull away despite drawing myriad walks, but it didn’t matter because Hirata didn’t issue a free pass and Waiakea won 7-5 to clinch the title.
