Kenneth Kenichi Akine, 82, of Hilo died March 15 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, he was a retired auto mechanic for I.K. Motors, Kamaaina Nissan and Kamaaina Volkswagen, U.S. Army veteran and member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin. Private services held. No flowers or koden (monetary gifts). Survived by wife, Betty Akine of Hilo; son, Blaine (Annette) Akine of Arizona; daughter, Cheryl (Stacey) Kubota of Honolulu; brother, Alan Akine of Hilo; sister, Alice (Rodney) Takahashi of Kapaa, Kauai; sister-in-law, Diane Akine of Hilo; four grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Fusako “Fuzzy” M. Nishikawa, 92, of Hilo died April 3 on Oahu. Born in Honolulu, she was retired from the state Department of Taxation and was a member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin. Visitation 9-10 a.m. Saturday, May 5, at Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin. Memorial service at 10 a.m. Casual attire. Survived by sons, Nelson (Lois) Nishikawa of Pukalani, Maui, Michael (Noreen) Nishikawa of Kapolei, Oahu, and Clayton (Linn) Nishikawa of Wailuku, Maui; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Brandon Jake A. Subia, 2, of Keaau died March 26 at Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children in Honolulu. He was born in Honolulu. Visitation 5-7 p.m. Friday (May 4) at Pahoa Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Wake service at 7 p.m. All-night vigil to follow at the family home in Keaau. Visitation again 8-10 a.m. Saturday, May 5, at the church. Mass at 10 a.m. Casual attire. Burial to follow at the church cemetery.
