Club member Ken Jackson will offer a presentation about photographic composition and Vijay Karai will share insights and techniques in the art of macro photography at 7 p.m. Wednesday during the next meeting of the Hilo Photography Club at the Kamana Senior Center in Hilo.

Jackson has been engaged in photography since 1958, operating photography businesses in Ohio and North Carolina before moving to Hawaii. Composition is a critical photographic element in capturing and creating compelling images. Jackson enjoys sharing and inspiring others in finding and refining their photographic vision and compositional skills.

Visitors are invited to bring a flash drive with one or two images and as time permits, their vision will be explored.

Karai will talk about macro photography, technically defined as being able to capture an image at a 1:1 ratio. More broadly, the term is applied to any close-up or extreme close-up image capture. Subjects for macro photography include flowers, plants, insects and inanimate objects.

Techniques and equipment requirements will be discussed in detail as a prelude to a free macro photography workshop led by members of the club. Location and date will be announced during the meeting.

The senior center is located at 127 Kamana St. The public is invited and admission is free. Light refreshments will be served at intermission. The club includes photographers of all ages and skill levels. Club activities include monthly meetings, photography field trips and workshops. Memberships are $15 per year.
