Police are reporting numerous areas in Hilo and Puna are without power due to high winds and lightening hits.

Hawaii County Civil Defense says crews from Hawaii Electric Light Co. are currently responding to the outages and the storm is expected to gradually decrease this afternoon.

A severe thunderstorm warning expired at 2:30 p.m.

Residents are still advised to continue to be on alert for the possibility of strong gusty winds and heavy showers and to stay indoors during lightening storms.
