Ka‘u police said this afternoon they’re looking for a 40-year-old “armed and dangerous” alleged parole violator after an encounter involving plainclothes officers at the Ocean View Market.

Jayse Polaris Lee was seen driving a primer black Nissan Frontier pickup truck with license plates HMB-768. He’s described as 5 foot 6 inches, 250 pounds with black hair and brown eyes, with a mustache and beard.

Lee may be in possession of a firearm and the public is advised against approaching him.

Lee is wanted for questioning in connection with an attempted murder investigation in Puna. The investigation stems from an incident on Feb. 9 in which a man riding a motorcycle fired a shot at a police officer, then escaped by running into nearby bushes. The officer was not struck by the bullet and did not return fire.

Lee is also wanted on an outstanding warrant of arrest for violating parole.

He’s also believed to have lost some weight since this photo was taken and is known to frequent the Hilo and Puna areas.

Anyone with information on Lee’s whereabouts is asked to call the police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311, the Ka‘u police station at 939-2520 or Crime Stoppers at 961-8300.
