Lance Niimi, an executive assistant under Mayor Harry Kim, will be the guest speaker during the annual League of Women Voters of Hawaii County meeting at 11 a.m. April 14 at St. James Episcopal Church in Waimea.

Current, former and prospective members as well as other interested people are invited to attend.

Registration starts at 9:30 a.m. followed by the business meeting at 10. Niimi’s talk, “Homelessness on Hawaii Island,” will start promptly at 11 a.m. A no-host luncheon follows about noon.

Niimi is one of three executive assistants under Kim with primary responsibility over the challenges of homelessness. He started off in Kim’s administration in December 2016 as assistant housing administrator and moved to the mayor’s office in August 2017.

The cost of lunch during the meeting is $10, payable by cash or check to LWVHC at the door. For reservations, contact Rosemarie Muller by April 6 at 631-294-0021 or via email at rcmuller27@hotmail.com.

The League of Women Voters does not support or oppose candidates or political parties. Instead, it works to encourage the informed and active participation of citizens in government. Membership is open to all citizens of voting age; noncitizens and citizens not yet of voting age can be associate members.
