The nonprofit Ku‘ikahi Mediation Center is hosting a free talk Thursday as part of its “Finding Solutions, Growing Peace” Brown Bag Lunch Series from noon-1 p.m. in the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney in Hilo.

This month’s speaker is retired Army Col. Deb Lewis on the topic “What it Takes to Stay Positive in the Real World.”

“Get ready to rock your understanding of positivity in this fun-filled session,” Lewis said. “People often mistake one’s choice to ‘stay positive’ as something ‘nice to do.’ What if the very essence of who we are and ever want to be depends on it?”

In this talk, learn what it takes to successfully navigate a steady stream of negative forces that exist in our world.

“With positivity, life doesn’t get easier — life gets better!” Lewis said.

Lewis is a Harvard MBA, combat veteran, Infinite-Win Institute co-founder, author, speaker, Hawaii Island Veterans Day Parade chairwoman and VFW Post 3830 commander. She graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in the first class with women.

Throughout her trailblazing 34-year career, she turned difficult situations into leadership moments to make a positive difference.

Ku‘ikahi’s Brown Bag Lunch Series is free and open to the public.

The prosecutor’s office is located at 655 Kilauea Ave. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lunch and enjoy an informal and educational talk-story session.

The series is sponsored by the Atherton Family Foundation, Hawaii County and Hawaii Island United Way.
