KAILUA-KONA — A dead dolphin was recovered Monday afternoon from Kealakekua Bay.

The state Department of Land and Natural Resources said the West Hawaii branch of the Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement responded to a 2 p.m. call from a tourist who reported seeing a dead dolphin at the north end of Napoopoo beach.

DLNR said it then contacted the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration stranded dolphin volunteer, who recovered a full-size dolphin.

At the time, some present said they saw a shark.

An officer did not see any sharks while there, but advised other people on the beach and kayak companies that a shark was seen.
