Clarence Eugene Furtado, 91, of Beaverton, Ore., formerly of Honokaa, died July 23, 2017, in Beaverton. Born in Haiku, Maui, he was a former Hawaii County police officer and U.S. Navy Seabees World War II veteran. Burial service 3 p.m. Friday (Feb. 16) at National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific (Punchbowl) in Honolulu. Survived by wife, Madeline Gomes Furtado; son, Terry Furtado; three grandchildren.

Joe Keith Hammer, 96, of Waikoloa died Feb. 7 at home. Born in Sacramento, Calif., he was a retired pilot, U.S. Air Force World War II veteran with the 306th Bomb Group, also known as “The Reich Wreckers,” and member of Quiet Birdmen (Big Island Hangar), Afifi Shriners, Air America Association and American Legion China Post 1. George Leslie, 82, of Kealakekua died Jan. 30 at Life Care Center of Kona. Born in Honolulu, he was a maintenance worker for the state departments of Transportation and Health and laborer for HC&D.
