Emily K. Waipa Among, 102, of Honolulu died Jan. 13. She was born in Puna. Visitation 9-10 a.m. Friday, March 2, at Diamond Head Mortuary Chapel. Funeral service at 10 a.m. Burial 12:30 p.m. at Diamond Head Memorial Park. Aloha attire; flowers welcome. Survived by daughter, Winona K. Silva; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Tsurue “Tee” Higa, 100, of Hilo died Jan. 13 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Halaula, North Kohala, she was a retired salesperson for the former Singer Sewing Co. Private services held. Survived by son, Melvin (Lenore) Higa of Honolulu; daughters, Lillian Shimabukuro of Mountain View, Pearl Lidji of New York City and Naomi (Jon) Nelson of State College, Pa.; sisters, Asako Jitchaku and Shizuko Miyashiro of Hilo; sister-in-law, Kimiko Higa of Honolulu; brother-in-law, Fukuichi (Masae) Higa of Mountain View; five grandsons and two great-granddaughters; nieces and nephews. Yoshio Koji, 98, of Hilo, formerly of Ookala, died Jan. 29 at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born in Honolulu, he was a retired garage clerk for the former Hamakua Sugar Co., former television and radio repairman, former member of Papaaloa Hongwanji Mission and U.S. Army World War II veteran of 442nd Regimental Combat Team, 100th Battalion, Co. D. Private services held. No flowers or koden (monetary gifts). Survived by daughter, Laverne Miyazono of Hilo; son, Duane Koji of Hilo; sister, Hanae Irie of Pepeekeo; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Edmund “Clyde” Puana, 79, of Keaau died Jan. 30. He was a retired state employee and U.S. Army Vietnam War veteran. Private services at a later date. Call Nani at 651-7832 for information. Warden J. Waugh, 91, of Pahoa died Feb. 8 at home. Born in Table Rock, W.Va., he was a retired repairman for Mission Viejo (Calif.) Country Club, U.S. Army veteran and member of East Hawaii Church of Christ. Visitation 9-10 a.m. Tuesday (Feb. 20) at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Funeral service at 10 a.m. Cremation to follow.
