The University of Hawaii at Hilo presents a performance of traditional Japanese arts by shamisen master Goshiro Kineya at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Performing Arts Center.

More than 60 artists from Japan will perform classical Japanese dance, melodies and the theatrical music of kabuki traditions on traditional Japanese instruments including shamisen, koto, shakuhachi and yokobue (Japanese flute).

“The artists, from all parts of Japan, are excited to share the traditions and culture of Japan with audiences in Hawaii,” Kineya said. “I hope that sharing these time-honored practices will contribute, in a small way, to fostering a vibrant cultural exchange between Japan and the U.S., in particular, Hawaii.”

Tickets are reserved seating and priced at $20 general, $15 discount and $10 UH-Hilo/Hawaii Community College students (with a valid student ID) and children age 17 and younger in advance. Ticket prices at the door are $25, $20 and $15. Tickets are available by calling the UH-Hilo box office at 932-7490 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, or online at artscenter.uhh.hawaii.edu.
