Harmony on Tap, a Hilo women’s singing group, presents “We Are Family!” concerts to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Hawaii Island.

“We’re excited to offer our ninth annual benefit show to island audiences,” said HOT director Jeri Gertz. “We definitely think of ourselves as family. Our group process is collaborative, with good ideas cascading off of one another, leading to excellent music and creative presentation.

”We know Big Brothers Big Sisters is all about mentoring and partnership, so we thought it would be perfect to invite young singers from the community as special guest artists to do a few songs in the program, as a way of extending the family feeling.”

The shows are set for 7:30 p.m. March 2-3 at First United Protestant Church, 1350 Waianuenue Ave. in Hilo.

The weekend concerts will feature mother-daughter duo Lisa and Isabel Taylor, a Malamalama Waldorf student chorus and one of Mark Sheffield’s voice students, Kamehameha 10th-grader Kyra Gomes.

“Since 2012, the nonprofit agency has been helping at-promise youth (Littles) reach their fullest potential by matching them up with caring volunteers (Bigs) in one-to-one mentoring friendships,” said Vanessa Carlson, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Hawaii Island’s regional director.

Carlson’s husband, popular radio personality DC, will be volunteering his emcee talents for the concerts.

Tickets are available downtown at the Most Irresistible Shop in Hilo, as well as from HOT members, BBBSHI members, and at the door. There is a suggested donation of $15 for adults, and as always, children age 9 and younger are free.

”Come enjoy cool women making HOT music for a good cause!” Gertz said.
