Hawaii Community College is hosting a series of free Girls Who Code computer science workshops designed for girls in grades 6-12.
The workshops are from 5-6:30 p.m. Wednesdays starting Feb. 7 in Building 346, Classroom 136 on the University of Hawaii at Hilo campus. Carrie Butler, an instructor in HCC’s information technology program, will lead the workshops, which are affiliated with the national nonprofit organization Girls Who Code.
“Many IT jobs are currently in demand and are projected to be in the future,” Butler said. “There is a much higher percentage of males working in computer and technology-related jobs than females. We are seeking to address this gap by getting girls interested in coding and other areas of IT in a safe, supportive, and fun environment.”
