Phillip “Phil” Villafuerte, 84, of Papaaloa died Dec. 21 at home. Born in Puukolii, Maui, he was a retired accountant for the former Hamakua Sugar Co., night auditor for the Hilo Lagoon Center, valet musician, playing ukulele while greeting the guests at the Mauna Lani Hotel and Bungalows, fast-pitch softball pitcher and coach and U.S. Army Korean War veteran. Visitation 8-10 a.m. Saturday (Feb. 3) at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Honokaa. Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Burial to follow at Honokaa Catholic Cemetery. Lunch at Catholic Hall following burial. Casual attire. Survived by wife, Victoria Villafuerte of Papaaloa; sons, Ralph (Donna) Villafuerte of California and Greg Villafuerte Sr. of Waimea; daughter, Phyllis (William) Frando of Waimea; stepson, Peterson (Mel) Nuniez Sr. of Papaaloa; stepdaughters, Shirlann (Stacey) Levita of Paauilo and Bernadine (Darrell Sr.) Kanekoa of Kukuihaele; 21 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
