UH-Hilo softball clinic

The University of Hawaii Hilo softball program will host a clinic from noon to 4 p.m. Jan. 21 at the UH-Hilo softball field.

The clinic is available to players ages 8-18 and costs $30.

Registration is available at 11 a.m. and is limited to the first 75 participants. For preregistration, contact coach Callen Perreira at 895-0092 (or 932-7176) or at callenp@hawaii.edu.

Instruction will come from Perreira and his coaching staff, along with members of the Vulcan softball team. In 2018, Perreira begins his 22nd season at UHH. In his 26 years of college coaching, his career record is 738-471.

Rizzuto estate sale

An estate sale for late West Hawaii Today columnist Jim Rizzuto will be held Jan. 20-21 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Waimea at 65-1552 Kawaihae Road. Among the items will be a hoard of tackle including hundreds of rods and too many lures to count. For more information, email rgaffney@pacificboatsales.com.

Vuls baseball clinic

The Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation will host its annual Waiakea ‘Uka Vulcan Baseball Clinic from 9-11:30 a.m. Saturday.

Registration will begin at 8 a.m. The clinic is open to children ages 7-13.

The Waiakea Pirates baseball organization is looking for T-ball players (born 5/1/2011 to 4/30/13) and PONY players (ages 13-14) for the 2018 season.

Setting the record straight

The names of Keaau’s Anela Gonzalez and Waiakea’s Natalie Mendoza were misspelled in recent editions of the Tribune-Herald.

Gonzalez is basketball player for the Cougars, while Mendoza dives and plays water polo for the Warriors.
