Hawaiian Telcom expanded broadband internet to 5,000 rural locations in the state, including several areas on Hawaii Island.

The expansion area includes Eden Roc, Fern Acres, Fern Forest, Glenwood, Hawaiian Acres, Hakalau, Kaiwiki, Kalopa Mauka, Kapoha, Kurtistown, Leilani Estates, Miloli‘i, Nanawale Estates, Ninole, Hawaiian Ocean View Estates, Orchidland, Ouli, Pa‘auilo Mauka and Waiki‘i Ranch, the company said in a press release.

The broadband expansion was funded in part by a $26 million federal Connect America Fund grant.
