The summits of Maunakea and Mauna Loa are closed until further notice.

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a flash flood watch starting this afternoon through Thursday for the entire island. NWS says residents should be on alert for heavy rain and flooding conditions.

NWS also has issued a winter storm warning for the summits of Maunakea and Mauna Loa and says heavy snow and strong winds are possible for these areas.

The summit of Maunakea had received some snow as of Tuesday morning, according to images from webcams posted online by the Maunakea Weather Center.

The Maunakea Access Road is closed to the public above the Visitor Information Station. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park has closed the Mauna Loa summit to backcountry travel.
