Police are investigating the death of a 42-year-old Ka‘u man.

The victim has been identified as 42-year-old Zachariah Sugrue of Hawaiian Ocean View Estates.

At about 7:37 p.m. Tuesday, authorities received a call of an unresponsive man inside a Catamaran Lane home. Fire Department medics determined the man was dead. According to police, he had sustained several injuries that appeared to be suspicious.

Preliminary reports of an autopsy performed this morning failed to identify an exact cause of death with no signs of foul play. The pathologist ha s deferred her determination as to the cause of death until the toxicology results are received.

Detectives are investigating the death as a coroner’s inquest.

The case has been classified as a coroner’s inquest.
