Three injured after state vehicle strikes school bus

Two children and a state employee were injured Wednesday morning after a state pickup truck struck a school bus in Mountain View.

At 6:41 a.m. Wednesday, a crash between a bus and a state-operated pickup truck was reported at the intersection of Highway 11 and North Oshiro Road. It was determined that the bus was northbound on Highway 11 and was in the process of making a left turn onto North Oshiro Road when the pickup truck, which was southbound on Highway 11, struck the bus.

The bus was occupied by eight children between the ages of 11 and 14 as well as the driver, a 52-year-old man. Two of the juvenile passengers, both girls, were transported to the Hilo Medical Center for minor injuries.

The driver of the truck was also transported to the Hilo Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
