The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for the Big Island.

The warning, which means flooding is either imminent or already occurring, is in effect until 2:45 p.m. today, but is subject to possible extension.

At least three streets in Hilo remain closed, according to police.

In addition, Hilo Bayfront Highway is also closed between Waianuenue Avenue and Manono Street.

Civil Defense said Waipio Valley Road is open to local traffic only.

Due to heavy rains, the roadways and surrounding areas are extremely saturated and visibility is also limited.

Please drive with caution and use alternate routes. Traffic is heavier than usual due to the road closures, so please give yourself more time to drive to your destination.
