Nanea tops Hilo Muni in golf tourney at Hualalai

Hilo Municipal’s Kevin Hayashi and Rodney Acia finished second at the EZ-Go Team championship, which concluded Monday at Hualalai golf course.

Nanea’s Kris Kitt and Juan Rodriguez won in a playoff hole after each team finished with a 4-under-par, two-day 134 total.

Mauna Kea’s Jay Taise and Josh Stillman placed one shot back for third place.

Wahine receive honors for Big West volleyball

Four University of Hawaii volleyball players earned all-Big West honors on Monday. Senior middle hitter Emily Maglio earned her third all-conference accolade, while senior libero Savanah Kahakai and sophomore setter Norene Iosia earned their second first-team honors and junior outside hitter McKenna Granato made her first all-Big West first team.

Hawaii (20-7) will take on Illinois (21-10) in the NCAA Tournament first round this Friday at 3 p.m. HT in Seattle, Wash.

UHH basketball on radio station AM 670

Radio station AM 670 KPUA in Hilo will broadcast UH-Hilo basketball games, starting with Thursday’s PacWest matchup against Cal Baptist.

Because of scheduling conflicts, UHH women’s games will begin with the Jan. 3, 2018 doubleheader against Notre Dame de Namur.

A separate video stream and live stats will also be available on the Vulcan athletic website at www.hiloathletics.com.

4th annual Life Champion Bowl rosters released

The Hawaii Football Club’s 4th annual Life Champion Bowl recently announced its rosters. There are 98 seniors representing 34 schools and covering the state’s five leagues: BIIF, MIL, OIA, ILH, and KIF.

From the BIIF, the players are Seau Amor, Konawaena; Kaleo Apao, Hilo; Austin Ewing, Konawaena, Makana Kanehailua, Hilo; Koa Kapahu, Hilo; Justin Kenoi, Kamehameha; Isaac Liu, Hilo; Jashen Mathieu, Kamehameha; Hunter Parks, Waiakea; Jeremiah Schubert, Kamehameha; Kuresa Toledo, Hilo; Anthony Trevino, Kealakehe; and Kaiea Vera, Hilo.

St. Louis receiver Mitchell Quinn is also invited to the senior bowl game, which will be played on Kauai. It was also held on the Garden Isle last year.
