LOGAN, Utah — Coach Nick Rolovich’s second season at Hawaii is quickly becoming a forgettable one.
Jordan Love passed for a score and ran for another, Gerold Bright and LaJuan Hunt each had scoring runs, and Utah State beat the Rainbow Warriors 38-0 on Saturday to become bowl eligible for the sixth time in seven years.
The Rainbow Warriors (3-8, 1-7 Mountain West) finish with just one conference win and have no such bowl plans after losing for the eighth time in nine games.
“It was just a bad-looking performance by us,” Rolovich said. “We felt that this team, if we could go fast, we could eliminate some of their movement stuff. So, that was kind of our thought process. In hindsight, we should have used one timeout.”
Diocemy Saint Juste gained 122 yards on 28 carries for his 3,000th career rushing yard for Hawaii. Dru Brown, 16 of 29 for 128 yards passing, threw for his 5,000th career yard.
None of that was nearly enough.
Freshman quarterback Kent Myers also threw a TD pass for the Aggies (6-5, 4-3), whose defense forced a goal-line fumble and five punts and stopped the Rainbow Warriors four times on downs.
Bright scored on a 60-yard run on Utah State’s second possession and Love hit Ron’quavion Tarver on a 10-yard scoring pass on the third. Myers connected with Braelon Roberts on a 49-yard scoring strike for a 21-0 halftime lead.
Hunt scored on a 48-yard run in the third quarter and finished with 111 yards on 13 carries. Love, 9-of-14 passing for 113 yards and an interception, lost a shoe on his 15-yard TD run in the third.
UH finished winless on the road in the Mountain West for the fourth time in six seasons.
Wahine take finale
Emily Maglio swatted 11 kills and Natasha Burns added 10 on .529 hitting as Hawaii concluded its regular season with a 25-20, 26-24, 25-16 victory at UC Irvine.
The Rainbow Wahine (20-7, 14-2 Big West) were assured a runner-up conference finish and remain hopeful they will be playing in their 25th consecutive NCAA tournament. The at-large selections will be revealed Nov. 26.
Harlee Kekauoha led the Anteaters (21-7, 9-6) with 12 kills.
