An 86-year-old Hilo woman has died after she was hit by a vehicle Sept. 21 in Hilo.
Police identified her as Yoshie Oshiro.
Officers responding to a 10:51 a.m. call determined that a southbound 2016 Toyota sedan on Kinoole Street struck two pedestrians in a crosswalk at the intersection with Mamo Street.
Oshiro was taken to Hilo Medical Center and later flown to The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu in critical condition. She was later released from The Queen’s Medical Center, but remained under health care and died as a result of her injuries at 10:35 p.m. Oct. 20, police said.
The second pedestrian, an 86-year-old Honolulu woman, was taken to Hilo Medical Center in stable condition.
The driver of the Toyota sedan, an 88-year old Hilo woman, wasn’t injured.
A negligent injury investigation opened by police was reclassified to negligent homicide.

Oshiro’s death is the 30th official traffic fatality this year compared with 28 at this time last year. There also have been four vehicle-related deaths in 2017 police don’t count toward the official total because two occurred on private property and two in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
