Man indicted on sex abuse charges

KAILUA-KONA — A Kona grand jury indicted a man accused of sexually abusing a minor more than five years ago.

Charges were filed against William John Johnson on Nov. 6. A bench warrant also was issued, with bail set at $35,000.

According to court documents, the assault occurred sometime between July 1 and Aug. 14, 2012. The alleged victim was younger than 14 years old at the time.

Documents state Johnson knowingly engaged in sexual penetration with the minor, knowingly had sexual contact and knowingly subjected the alleged victim to sexual contact or caused to have contact with him.

Johnson is charged with first-degree sexual assault and two counts of third-degree sexual assault. The grand jury also ordered Johnson to have no contact with the victim.
