The National Weather Service in Honolulu issued a high surf advisory for north-facing shores of Kohala, Hamakua, Hilo and Puna in effect through the weekend.

Surf up to 16 feet is possible.

Oceanfront residents, boat owners and beachgoers are advised to secure their property and to be on alert for possible high and dangerous surf.

Bayfront Highway was closed Friday morning because of high surf and debris. Additional road and beach closures might occur without notice.
