The Waimea courthouse is now accepting petitions for domestic violence restraining orders, police said Monday in a written release.

Temporary restraining order petitions can now be dropped off at the South Kohala District Courthouse. Petitioners no longer need to go to Kona to file.

The forms are available 24 hours a day at the Waimea police station, 67-5185 Kamamalu St., next to the courthouse.

After hours, there is an emergency phone next to the door that connects directly to dispatch. If you pick up the phone, you can ask for an officer to bring a TRO packet. Petitioners also can request their address and phone number be kept confidential.

There is a court form for that request (included in the police packet). It can be filled out along with the petition for TRO and turned in together.

The forms also are available in the self-help section at the courthouse in Waimea. Courthouse hours are 9 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays, except holidays.

For more information, call Community Policing Officer May Lee at 887-3080.
