Christ Lutheran Church will be hosting a screening of the documentary “Martin Luther: The Idea That Changed the World” at 3:30 p.m. Monday at the Palace Theater in Hilo.

This year is the 500th anniversary of the Reformation that Luther launched that would change the way the world would view the church and the church would engage the world. Faced with death and placed under arrest for his teaching, Luther refused to back down.

“Many people would probably ask ‘Who cares about that ancient history and what difference does it make?’ said Christ Lutheran Pastor Mark Zier. “This film does an amazing job of answering that question and I’m excited that we can share it with our community.”

The radical events, compelling personalities and drama of the Reformation are brought to life in “Martin Luther: The Idea That Changed the World.” The full-length documentary features reenactments of the 16th-century events with commentary from leading church historians.

Five percent of all ticket sales will be used to help feed the hungry in the Hilo community.

“Our congregation is all about helping our community so we wanted to give back the percentage we’ll receive from the ticket sales,” Zier said.

Tickets are available by presale online only at www.tugg.com/events/martin-luther-the-idea-that-changed-the-world-td_p. For more information, call Christ Lutheran Church at 935-8612.
