The skinny: Emily Maglio is an animal sciences major, but the Hawaii senior middle lately has been minoring in urban planning.

The Canadian national has put up 38 blocks in the past two weeks, including a combined 18 in two road matches last week. The efforts against Long Beach State and Cal State Northridge earned her a second consecutive Big West volleyball defensive player of the week honor on Monday.

The 6-foot-3 Maglio tied her career high on Friday against the 49ers with her third consecutive match with 10 blocks. She added a match-high 14 kills, hitting .321, for her second straight double-double.

Against the Matadors on Saturday, Maglio had 13 kills — her ninth time in 10 matches in double digits — to go along with eight blocks. She leads the conference with 114 total blocks and 1.54 blocks per set, which rank her eighth and ninth nationally.

Also, Hawaii (13-6, 7-1 BWC) moved up three places to 48 in the Ratings Percentage Index, the computer-generated rankings used by the NCAA to derive a team’s strength of schedule. All of the Wahine’s losses have come against teams with higher RPI: Utah (10), UCLA (15), BYU (17), San Diego (24), Cal Poly (26) and Marquette (36). They only have one win over a team with a higher RPI: Baylor (22).

The skinny: Dani Crawford, Sonest Furtado, Keala Parker-Lee, Spenser Jaye, Bo Samson, Paige Okazaki, Kellsie Gleason and Evelyn Fierros will be recognized in a senior night ceremony after the game.

The Wahine and Mustangs each enter 1-4 in Big West play.

Furtado, the reigning Big West Offensive Player of the Week, entered Hawai’i’s all-time top 10 in career goals scored last week after scoring twice against Cal Santa Barbara. She ranks 17th among all NCAA Division I players with 2.15 shots on goal per game this season.
