Bettylou “BJ” Jenkins Ackerman, 81, of Kealakekua died Oct. 6 at Nakamaru Hale in Holualoa. Born in Holualoa, she was a retired lomilomi massage therapist, front office manager for the former Kona Inn Resort and founding member of Calvary Community Church. Celebration of life for Betty and her departed husband, James “Sonny” Ackerman, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Kona or Calvary Community Church. Reynette Leimomi Frasco Ah Sam, 54, of Hilo died Sept. 16 in Bellevue, Neb. Born in Hilo, she was co-owner/laborer at Black Wing Vineyard in Glenwood, Iowa, co-owner/event coordinator/operator at Vine Street Cellars in Bellevue, a nonprofit advocate, connector and fundraiser volunteer, member of Hale O Na Alii and Halau O Kalakaua and U.S. Air Force veteran. Survived by husband, Ralph Ah Sam of Bellevue; son, Ramsay Ah Sam of Bellevue; daughter, Rianna Ah Sam of Bellevue; mother, Melvina Rita Fernandez of Hilo; father, Reynold Frasco of Hilo; brothers, Brian (Dori) Frasco of Laupahoehoe and Myron (Ruby) Frasco of Hilo; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Mariano Udarbe Ubilas, 90, of Kapaau died Sept. 23 at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born in Magsingal, Ilocus Sur, the Philippines, he was a kitchen utility worker at Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a U.S. Army veteran. All-night vigil at 6 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 19) at the family’s residence, 54-2451 Kynnersley Road in Kapaau. Visitation 8 a.m. Friday (Oct. 20) at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hawi. Mass at 10 a.m. followed by burial at Hawi County Cemetery. Luncheon and fellowship at Father Damien’s Hall. Casual attire. Flowers welcome. Shirley Sanae Tanouye, 81, of Pepeekeo died Sept. 28 at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center. Born in Pahoa, she was retired from Cafe 100 and a seamstress for the former Kamehameha Garments.
