Haruko Hayashi, 102 of Papaikou died Aug. 23 at Hale Anuenue Restorative Care Center in Hilo. Born in Papaikou, she was a retired seamstress for the former Kamehameha Garment Co. Services held. No flower or koden (monetary gofts). Survived by son, Ronald (Sandra) Hayashi of Hilo; daughters, Lorraine (Stanley) Yamashita and Karen (Jonathan) Yasuda of Aiea, Oahu; sisters, Janice (Hisashi) Okamoto and Kazue Koyama of Honolulu; six grandsons and a great-granddaughter; nephews and nieces. Virginia “Ginger” Rutherford James, 68, of Paauilo died Aug. 17 at home. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was an elementary school teacher, corporate human resources specialist, a high school guidance counselor, University of Hartford graduate, quilter and supporter/contributor to Lydia’s Closet thrift store in Honokaa.
