UH-Hilo junior forward Jaimie Salas was named the Pacific West Conference Player of the Week on Monday, three days after the Arizona State transfer scored twice in a 4-1 against Concordia.

UH-Hilo junior forward Jaimie Salas was named the Pacific West Conference Player of the Week on Monday, three days after the Arizona State transfer scored twice in a 4-1 against Concordia.

Salas opened the scoring Sept. 4 for the Vulcans (3-0) in a 3-1 victory against Chaminade.

Salas leads the team with four goals on just eight shots, and she shared UH-Hilo’s Pepsi Athlete of the Week with teammate Bryanna-Marie Ebbers, a Kamehameha graduate who also scored two goals against Concordia.

The Vulcans will play their first home match of the season at 2 p.m. Saturday again Hawaii Pacific at Kamehameha.

New Hope Angels sign-ups

The New Hope Angels baseball program is accepting registrations for the following divisions: Pony (ages 12-14), for safety concerns some experience needed; coach-pitch (ages 6-8) and T-ball (ages 4-6), no experience needed.

Hilo Little League fall-ball

As an extension to its summer baseball and softball season, Hilo Little League is conducting fall-ball starting Sept. 30 through the end of the year.

Coach applicants, as well as baseball and female softball players ages 8-14 are required to register by Friday.
