Police have arrested and charged a 53-year-old Keaau man for multiple drug offenses after an almost monthlong investigation into crystal methamphetamine distribution in East Hawaii.

Samuel Navarro Lagunas was arrested Thursday at a strip mall on East Puainako Street in Hilo after a narcotics dog indicated the presence of drugs in the vehicle Lagunas was seated in.

A search warrant was executed, police said, leading to the discovery of 14 ounces of crystal methamphetamine.

According to police, the drugs, packaged for distribution, carry an approximate street value of more than $60,000.

Lagunas was charged with two counts of first-degree promotion of a dangerous drug and drug paraphernalia.

As of Friday, he was held at the Hilo police cellblock in lieu of $100,000 bail.
