Hawaii County Economic Opportunity Council is offering Energy and Money Efficiency workshops in September at four locations on the Big Island.

HCEOC’s Weatherization Assistance Program helps low-income individuals and families reduce energy costs and increase comfort and safety in their homes.

Individuals, families, the elderly and the disabled who are making no more than 200 percent of the current federal poverty income level are eligible for assistance. Priority is given to the elderly and disabled, households with high-energy consumption, emergency situations and homes with preschool-age children.

Participating households average nearly 33 percent in savings, or approximately $293 per year, after the completion of weatherization improvements.

Anyone interested in weatherizing their homes can come apply for Energy Saving Products (kits) during the workshops or call HCEOC’s Hilo office for details. Eligible individuals and families are encouraged to take advantage of the free presentations/workshops and the products being offered.

The workshop times, dates and locations are:

• 4:30 p.m. Sept. 7, Hilo HCEOC office, 47 Rainbow Drive.

• 4:30 p.m. Sept. 8, Waimea Community Center, 65-1260 Kawaihae Road.

• 3 p.m. Sept. 15, Naalehu HCEOC office, behind the Naalehu Senior Center.

• 4:30 p.m. Sept. 21, West Hawaii Civic Center, 74-5044 Ane Keohokalole Highway.

For more information, call HCEOC’s Hilo office at 961-2681, ext. 300 or 401.
