Three arrested, two sought in Hilo assault case

Police arrested and charged three Hilo men for a Thursday evening assault in Hilo and are seeking two others for questioning.

Police arrested and charged three Hilo men for a Thursday evening assault in Hilo and are seeking two others for questioning.

Wailani Bully Kenui, 33, is charged with second-degree assault and unauthorized entry to a motor vehicle. His bail is set at $20,000.

Mathew K. Haraguchi, 30, is charged with assault. His bail is set at $10,000.

Gavin Keokoa Kalani Calicdan, 26, is charged with assault, unauthorized entry to a motor vehicle and contempt of court. His bail is set at $20,150.

Police responded to a 7:18 p.m. report of a 26-year-old Hilo man being punched and kicked by several men as the victim sat in his truck in front of a Punawai Street home. The victim told police that he was also struck with a wrench by one of the suspects, all of whom later fled in a van before police arrived.

The victim was taken to the Hilo Medical Center where he was treated for injuries to his head and torso before being released.

The three suspects were taken into custody at 7:30 p.m. at the Hilo Terrace Apartments on Waianuenue Avenue.

Two additional men are wanted for questioning in connection with this incident.

Eduardo Lopez Jr. is a 33-year-old Hilo man described as 5 feet 9 inches tall, 175 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

He’s also wanted for questioning in an unrelated Ninole burglary.

Kaipo Pomroy is a 29-year-old Pepeekeo man described as 5 feet 11 inches tall, 155 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.
