A 28-year-old Hilo man is in custody after allegedly causing a disturbance on Kamehameha Avenue in Hilo after midnight on Friday.
Police say Stacen Deponte was yelling and waving his arms and officers, who stopped to see if he needed assistance, arrested him on charges of public drinking and promoting a dangerous drug.
At the Hilo cellblock, Deponte hit an officer in the face and then kicked him in the chest as the officer fell backward, police said.
Deponte was additionally charged with resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer and transferred to the Kona cellblock.
His bail was set at $2,525.
